Make DAL CISCO VPN support Leopard

Just got Leopard, everything works perfect, except one thing, we can not use CISCO VPN provided by DAL IT department. I got an Error 51 mistake. It troubles me a lot if I can’t use my MAC on Killiam Library.

Then I find that there is a latest version of CISCO VPN 4.9.01(0080), it does work on Leopard.

Step 1) Download CISCO VPN 4.9.01(0080), http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10317 or http://www.govnet.state.vt.us/restricted/ciscovpnclient/, this website belongs to some particular developer “Ricktdotorg”,(I think so, you can check http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19324376-Cisco-VPN-Client-and-Leopard for more detailed information. Thanks Ricktdotorg)

Step 2) Download the original one form Dalhousie network, we need the profile. Copy dalvpn.pcf from Profiles director to the same directory we just download.

Step 3) Most Important! If you already have CISCO VPN installed. You must uninstall it first.

Use these commands in Terminal.

          cd /usr/local/bin

          sudo ./vpn_uninstall

Step 4)It will ask you if you want to uninstall, type in Yes and press enter.

It will ask you if you want to delete your profiles and stuff, type in Yes and press enter.

Setp 5)Install the new VPN edition and Enjoy.

Step 5)Optional, if you want to use Shimo instead of ugly CISCO interface and you don’t want the CISCO VPN icon appear in your application directory. See http://mactigercat.blogspot.com/2007/09/dalhousievpnciscovpncisco.html.

Select “custom” in installation, and deselect vpnclient-gui then finish installation.

Step 6)Install Shimo, now everything is “Native”.
